Many parents debate whether or not they should send their child to preschool, especially the year before kindergarten. Questions come to mind- Will my child know what to do when they get to kindergarten? Will they have the skills they need? Will they be behind? The fear of having a child not understand or be below the level of the other children lead some parents to decide a formal preschool is the best option. Other parents will tell you the child needs to learn discipline needs to learn to sit, needs to learn to play in groups. All of these things can be accomplished by teaching your child at home. Whether home schooling is part of your future or not, you can keep you child home for preschool and accomplish the same things a formal preschool will in less time, with more control over the influences your child is exposed to, and with more control of the curriculum that is being taught. Teaching your preschooler at home will save you money, will save you time, and will increase the bond you have with your child. If you are sending them to kindergarten, this will be the last year they are home with you. Cherish the time and know you can do it on your own with help and guidance along the way.
Children enjoy using pencils, charcoal, pastels and chalk. Using these encourages them to vary the intensity or depth of colors. Markers have a place but they are not my first choice. Two of my favorites are charcoal on white card stock paper (so that it can withstand the intensity of the interaction and not tear) and finger paint. Worthy of note here is use of paint smocks for either activity. If your preschooler has to stop and worry about getting dirty or messy, it interferes with the discovery process. Charcoal and Pastel Drawings Lets start with charcoal. Set your kids up with large sheets of white cardstock. I have even bought poster board and cut it in sections so that everyone has canvas to work on. Give your kids charcoal pieces and encourage them to draw whatever they want. Show them that they can use their fingers and hands to smudge the designs, thus creating different effects. They can even put a handprint on it. Ask them to discover what happens when they use different pressure or use an entire side of the charcoal rather than the tip.
Studies have shown the immediate effects of preschool education for children during their first 5 years of life. Children are like sponges; they soak in knowledge and continue to learn on a daily basis. It is essential to instill the idea of education and learning in children from a very early age, even before they start Pre- School. This helps young minds develop an interest in learning and prepares them for formal school. It is important to introduce your children to preschool skill building and intellectual learning programs that build a solid foundation that lasts a lifetime. A well designed Pre-School Educational program produces long-term improvement in school success; which includes higher achievement test scores, lower rates of grade retention and higher educational attainment. Research has also shown that starting early learning increases a childs performance throughout their Elementary School years and drastically reduces high school or college dropout rate and has shown excellent adult productivity.
Put down those boring worksheets! The best way to teach your preschooler to write is to use simple preschool writing activities that make learning fun. To be ready for kindergarten, your child needs to know how to cut and paste, copy simple shapes, trace vertical and horizontal lines, trace his or her name, and hold crayons, pencils and scissors correctly. The first step to teaching the above is strengthening the small muscles in the hands and wrists that are used in handwriting. This process is often referred to as building fine motor skills. You can encourage fine motor development by having your child use art supplies like crayons, paints, markers, glue and scissors. Lacing activities, stringing beads and cheerios, playing with playdoh, scooping sand or rice, and activities like pouring and stirring are also great fine motor activities.
As adults we read all the time; if not books, then emails, information on the internet, road signs, business letters and documentation. Learning how to read is vital for your childs success at school, and printable preschool worksheets can be a big help. Can you draw? When your child is first introduced to the letters of the alphabet, those letters are usually related to pictures of items that start with that letter. You will find Annie Apple, David Dolphin and similar terms used throughout the world to introduce children to sounds and letters. Unless youre artistic and can draw, printable worksheets may be an easier solution - and generally more affordable than a book.
Another one of the many ways that you can go about saving money with preschool worksheets is by using photo protectors. These are pages that you can slip photographs into to protect them. It is possible to find photo protectors that are designed for full pages, like preschool worksheets. You can simply slip each preschool worksheet into a page protector and give your child a dry erase marker. Each time that they are finished, you can wipe off the marker and the worksheet is good to go, again and again! The above mentioned methods are just a few of the many ways that you can go about saving money with preschool worksheets for your child. Of course, these steps are optional, but they can help you save money, as well as prolong the life of your childs preschool worksheets.
