Get your child some very basic problem solving worksheets. These are things that you can do with your child. Many of these will work on basic skills like counting and thinking skills. Dont go overboard on this as your child might not think its fun anymore if they are pressured to do them one after the other. Teach your child how to get dressed properly. He or she might not be able to do it all but they should at least understand how the clothing works. This makes things like bathroom breaks a bit easier on the teachers and your child. Try to get your child to know some very basic things. Teach them the colors, numbers, letters, and everyday names for common items. You can do a bit more if you want but this should be enough for kindergarten.
Sight Word Bingo - This is perhaps the main version of bingo suitable for younger kids. In this case, the bingo cards are printed with words, most often sight words (these are common words that kids must learn to recognize as they can not easily be sounded out - teachers have lists of these, such as the Dolch sight word list). In sight word bingo, the teacher reads out a word, students then look for that word on their bingo card. 3. Phonemic Awareness Bingo - This version of bingo may be too hard for the youngest children, but is a logical next step after sight word bingo. In this case, we go back to use bingo cards with letters, but the teacher reads out words, and the students task is to recognize the sound of the first letter and find the corresponding letter-square on their bingo cards.
During the kindergarten graduation do not leave it to the children to do all the hard work by reciting the poems and reading the prayers. After all you are the adult and you have a lot more skills and experience than those kindergarten young ones. Get stuck in and recite a poem of your own to give the children a flavor of what they should be doing. I also suspect that your children will be quite happy to see you making a fool of yourself so any poems and songs that your sing will go down a treat. It is after all a party among family so you can afford to make mistakes.
Most of us tend to think of bingo as a game played mainly by older people, but today variants of the game can also be found in many schools and even kindergartens. The difference is that whereas the version of bingo played by seniors is principally enjoyed as a leisure activity, the version played in schools and kindergartens is played as a learning game, and is particularly used for teaching the alphabet, phonemes, and reading in general. There are a number of different versions of bingo that can be played in introductory reading classes, including: 1. Letter bingo - The most basic version of the game, one that students will quickly progress through is to play bingo using bingo cards printed with letters. The teacher acts as bingo caller, and either says the letter name or gives the sound of the letter, and students must find the matching square on their bingo cards.
Economic pressures might mean that you cannot afford a very expensive kindergarten graduation gift but be aware that it is mostly the thought is what counts in these circumstances rather that the belief that you are giving the best that you can. If your child has been well brought up they will be able to understand that things are not as good as you would like them to be and they will accept your kindergarten graduation gift in good faith. What you cannot afford to accept is the individuality of that child under the Montessori system because this will determine how you choose and give out the gift. There is an expectation that the parent will give the best kindergarten graduation gift. Do not disappoint the children by consistently coming short.
Connect The Letter To The Correct Sound/Word: These are activities where you draw a line between a letter and the picture items that start with that letter. For instance, youd draw a line from the letter A to the word "Apple" and the letter L to the word "Lemon". This activity is good, but takes a lot of monitoring to make sure that students are correctly connecting the letters. Its best as a homework activity, where parents can help to make sure their children are correctly connecting the letters to the words. Letter Books: These are books that frequently use the same phonemes over and over so students can understand them (the link between a letter and the sound it makes). For instance, "Baby bear bounced balls".
