As your child gets older, they will quickly approach the age of going into kindergarten. Going to kindergarten is an issue of age but its also one of maturity. Your child needs to learn some basic skills that will help him or her be more ready for school. Find out what you can do that will help you prepare your child for kindergarten. Read to your child each day. This is a good practice as it does help your child learn. He or she will learn basic words better and will recognize more letters which will aid learning the ABCs. Use the heavy Christmas shopping hints that your child may leave you from time to time to select the kindergarten graduation gift that they might want for their kindergarten graduation ceremony. You might not want to ask them outright because it will almost certainly spoil the surprise but you can work on hints as well to understand what exactly is going to be suitable for the event. I know it sounds somewhat tacky to be tricking your own child but believe it might be the only way that you will be able to get to know what they really want for the graduation ceremony. Children can have very conflicting desires from one day to the next and it is up to you the parent to decipher what exactly they want.
Kindergarten teachers are often looking for effective ways to teach their kindergarten students sight words. Many kindergarten teachers use different methods for teaching their student sight words such as teaching through the use of sight word games, sight word lists, and sight word activities. The appropriate method for teaching kindergartener students these important words should be determined by the teacher through assessment of age appropriateness, learning disabilities and other kindergarten student/classroom related factors. Sight words are the most common words used in the English language. A kindergarten student should be taught these important words so they can recognize the words on "sight." These important words are the core foundation for reading and are taught in every elementary school across the United States. Kindergarten sight words lists are important for enhancing student reading. The word list is made up of words that frequently appear in preschool and kindergarten level reading material.

Kindergarten worksheets are often of much value in helping kindergarten children learn and re-inforce basic concepts in an interesting way. Small children usually like to do things rather than just read or listen. They also get bored rather easily. Therefore giving them well-designed, illustrated worksheets to do makes it easier and more fun for them to learn. Completing a worksheet also gives a child a great sense of fulfillment. In fact, not just for kindergarten, but even for older learners worksheets can form a valuable part of the learning process. There are many good workbooks available for kindergarten children. However with a regular workbook, a child can do each activity or worksheet only once. A good option is to use printable kindergarten worksheets. These are basically digital versions (like ebooks) of worksheets that can be bought and downloaded to your computer from the internet or from CDs and then printed out. The advantage is that you can print out whichever sheet you wish. If you need to re-inforce a certain concept more you can usually print out that sheet again. Of course you will therefore need to have a computer and a printer. Do choose worksheets that are appropriate for the childs level, since children can get discouraged easily, if they are unable to perform the activity. Well illustrated worksheets with cartoons are also more likely to appeal to children. Worksheets that use common situations children come across at home, school, in the market place etc and that use common objects known to children would be more relevant.
