Kindergarten graduation gifts are one of the most personal things that a child retains from an adult. Gifts in general reflect the personalities of both the person giving them and the person receiving them. If you get the gift wrong, you can cause some resentment and a chilling of interpersonal relationships so you had better take your time when selecting gifts for your kindergarten children as they graduate. Kindergarten graduation gifts should be used as a means of showing your affection for those around you as well as congratulating them on the great achievement of finishing their kindergarten graduation successfully. The gift can also be a memento of these happy times.
Sight Word Bingo - This is perhaps the main version of bingo suitable for younger kids. In this case, the bingo cards are printed with words, most often sight words (these are common words that kids must learn to recognize as they can not easily be sounded out - teachers have lists of these, such as the Dolch sight word list). In sight word bingo, the teacher reads out a word, students then look for that word on their bingo card. 3. Phonemic Awareness Bingo - This version of bingo may be too hard for the youngest children, but is a logical next step after sight word bingo. In this case, we go back to use bingo cards with letters, but the teacher reads out words, and the students task is to recognize the sound of the first letter and find the corresponding letter-square on their bingo cards.
As your child gets older, they will quickly approach the age of going into kindergarten. Going to kindergarten is an issue of age but its also one of maturity. Your child needs to learn some basic skills that will help him or her be more ready for school. Find out what you can do that will help you prepare your child for kindergarten. Read to your child each day. This is a good practice as it does help your child learn. He or she will learn basic words better and will recognize more letters which will aid learning the ABCs. It will also stimulate your childs imagination. Also teach your child how to write the ABCs because this will help them to learn them also. Plus it will help with their penmanship.
There are a lot of websites offering free phonics worksheets, but when selecting good kindergarten phonics worksheet its important to keep in mind the fact that the group your teaching is extremely young. What that means is, dont try and throw anything too tricky into the worksheet. Ill look at some of the different kinds of worksheets that are available so that you can get some ideas for designing your own worksheets and using worksheets that are actually relevant to kindergarten students. Letter tracing: This is where you have a dotted line spelling out a word, with the picture next to the word, and the goal of the exercise is for students to practice writing while improving their phonetic skills. For instance, they might trace out the words for bat, ball, and basket. This is a really good, straightforward activity.
Next, some parents believe that the additional child-parent "quality time" available when a child is in half-day kindergarten is of more benefit than all-day kindergartens additional academics. These parents prefer to spend the additional time with their children bonding and visiting destinations such as the childrens museum, the zoo, a local park, or the YMCA. For these parents the kindergarten year represents a way of preparing their child, and frankly themselves, for the transition to all day school. And on a local level, some parents have expressed concerns that our schools are too crowded to allocate additional classrooms to all-day kindergarten sections. Others have claimed that the district has too much on its plate right now resolving other fiscal and practical issues. As my husband and I often say to each other, "the truth is somewhere in the middle." It is my perspective that all-day kindergarten is certainly the right choice for some while being inadvisable to force upon others. Some kids will benefit in the long run from the additional academic rigor, while other kids lack the maturity to stay engaged for the entire day and will be frustrated by it. The best solution is to have both options available, with the choice ultimately being left to the parent(s).
Understanding Basic Skills There are basic skills every kindergartner needs to know before starting the school year. While the first portion of many school years is used to review basic concepts, teachers quickly move on to new subjects, assuming most children have had plenty of exposure to the basic concepts, including letter and number recognition. The ultimate goal in kindergarten is to get children ready to read, which takes a great deal of time. Teachers typically move on when a majority of the class is ready to learn the basics of reading. If your child is left behind, it could leave him behind for the rest of his school career.
