I have considered that alphabet is a result of visual refinement. However, in its thousands of years history, albeit undergoing changes, Chinese didnt develop into alphabet. Characters <1> remain complex over thousands of years development. Major simplification process hadnt occurred until last century. Number of characters was increasing. The question is: why did simplification occur so late? What kept Chinese characters complex for thousands of years? Was legibility principle not taking effect on Chinese system? It should. There should be something that prevented Chinese from developing into alphabet. Lets elaborate the concept of legibility.
Other activities for kindergarten include jigsaw puzzles. There are also worksheets that teach children about some biblical characters, and how to help a community. These activities are not limited to individual work. There are also worksheets that require a group effort to finish the task. This way, children learn to work in a team. This is a very effective group activity in helping them realize the importance of cooperation and teamwork. At a young age, kids are first taught to write letters in print only. When kids reach the age of eight to ten, they are taught how to write in cursive. They may find this quite difficult and boring at first. But one fun way to teach them this is to use worksheets also.
Simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese coexist. The traditional Chinese should represent the genuine Chinese since simplification of Chinese characters was due to foreign influence. The simplification of Chinese characters was accompanied by change in writing direction. Change in direction is consistent with and also promotes simplification. Simplification and change from vertical to horizontal are in fact Chineses deviation from its essential nature. Characters internal structure is less concerned about. People are now accustomed to reason basing on double- or multi-character words rather than single characters. There is debate whether simplification of Chinese is beneficial. Simply put, as Chinese system has turned into horizontal system, further simplification should be its future.
Spoken languages influence and practical factors Without spoken language, writing would have definitely evolved differently as it has been.Writing itself is capable of evolving alone. But, in reality, speech influences its evolution significantly. Since they are associated, writing and speech influence each other . Writing and speech have their own characteristics, legibility for writing, pronounceability and comprehensibility for speech. During their interaction, they are affected by each other and in the mean time try to maintain their own characteristics. Almost all present-day writings are pronounceable. That seems evidence that writing represents speech. However, from another angle, we also see that almost all speeches are writable. It should be that they converge from independent origins into tight association, instead of simply one conforming to the other. Convergence is obvious in alphabetic systems but not in pictographic systems. Tighter association leads to greater inter-influence. Tightly-associated speech and writing achieve mutual benefits as writing stimulates more speaking and speech induces more writing. Via association, speech sounds came to be a major source of new word/expression creation. Some new symbols are created or borrowed to represent language sounds. Diacritics are added to change sound value. These changes make writing representing speech better . As speech sounds can be represented by different written symbols/words/phases, the legibility (visual shapes) of symbols/words/phases is pondered over for choosing desired ones. During the interactions between speech and writing, sounds could affect the formation and evolution of writing systems. But the final determinant of its success is the visual legibility, fit for processing, easy to be memorized and systemized. The visual form, instead of association/interaction with spoken language, is the central and deterministic in writing systems evolution. Spoken language works as a bridge between meaning and writing. It is not central in evolution process. On the contrary, it attaches to its writing system for survival, growth and spread. We hypothesize that the writing systems evolve towards more-legible alphabetic systems by means of visual refinement, during interactions with speech sounds.
People have probably lived on the earth about 2 million years. But the story of world history began only about 5,500 years ago with the invention of alphabet. Since then, humans historys book turn to a new page. The history of the alphabet started in ancient Egypt about 3,500 B.C. Most alphabet letters began as a simplified version of ancient drawings of animals, objects, or signs. But sign and picture writing was too slow for the business world so people developed an alphabet in which only symbols were used. Each symbol represented one sound, and several were combined to make the sounds of one word. The alphabet was perfected by the Romans in about 114 A.D with 26 letters which now are called the Roman alphabet or the Latin alphabet.
All types of alphabet coloring pages available over the internet are an extension of Preschool Alphabet activities and crafts work. They have been designed in such ways that create interest in the minds of children. Simply teaching the preschools with boring alphabets may have negative impact on them. They may not find things interesting and may feel that you go too strict with them when they cannot pronounce or write the letters or able to relate to objects or things that start with the any alphabet initially. For instance they may find it difficult to remember tough words like H for Horse or House or Home. You may think it is silly, but remember they are small kids, what is easy for you may not be easy for them.
